TailpieceP20c-900wmTailpiece for How the Whale got his Throat, in Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies by The Folio Society, 2012. Sepia ink on Fabriano Artistico hot pressed watercolour paper.

I decided to cast a coelacanth in the role of the ‘Stute fish. He also appears next to the whale in another illustration from the same story which was used as the book’s frontispiece. I am less happy with that illustration and haven’t yet shared it here. Perhaps I shall see whether either my courage or an appeal from the readers will prompt me to later.
